What started out as a special request from the Malaysian government for Halal beef, has turned into a special story of a very special company - AL SAFA HALAL. It was in 1992 that officials from Malaysia came to Canada to meet with several beef companies, hoping to find a facility that would be willing to convert to Zabiha in order to supply Halal beef to their country. One of the companies approached was MGI Beef Packers, a mid-sized plant that was owned and operated by a group of investors, including the Muller family. After lengthy discussions with Islamic leaders and a subsequent thorough understanding of Halal procedures, MGI agreed to convert its entire slaughter to Zabiha, and soon thereafter began shipping Halal beef not only to Malaysia but to other Muslim countries as well.
