Afrikadey derives from the broken English spoken in West Africa, and means Africa is alive, Africa is well, Africa is there. Afrikadey! is presented by the AFPS , a registered not-for-profit organization incorporated under the Alberta Societies Act. The AFPS artistic vision is to showcase the artistic excellence of professional artists from Canada and abroad, to integrate African arts into the Canadian cultural mosaic and to promote cross-cultural exchange and understanding among Africans and non-Africans in Canada. In order to fulfill these objectives, the AFPS presents a week-long multi-disciplinary arts festival, including a one day outdoor concert. Audiences from all cultural, economic and social backgrounds come together to celebrate Africa and the African Diaspora. Each year the Festival presents the best musicians, writers, dancers, painters, sculptors and social thinkers from across Canada and from around the world to take part in one of the most colourful and exuberant arts events in Canada s cultural calendar. Festival programming is intentionally diverse and includes a selection of concerts, film, art exhibitions, drum and dance workshops, literary symposiums, theatre, and children s programming.
