It began as one man s vision and determination. A single man s decision to leave his native home of Austria to start a new life and pursue the dream of making a career in Canada in a trade he loved so much. Alfred Gruber has endured his share of long roads and misfortunes before getting to where he is today. As a young man in war-torn Europe in the late 1940 s, Mr. Gruber was subsequently apprenticed to a master whose woodworking business provided the interiors, windows and doors for the great hotels and banking institutions in central Europe. This is when the job became a passion, and where inspiration for his dream started to take shape. He continued to work in this same shop following his apprenticeship honing his skills until the spring of 1962.
