The BV206 consists of two units articulated together to effect steering and the turning radius is less than 27 feet fully loaded. The bodies are built of fiberglass reinforced plastic. Though light, the bodies are well insulated, extremely strong and able to withstand almost any type of punishment. The nylon-cord reinforced rubber tracks are driven by twin rows of idlers and average life span is 6200 miles (or more if used only over snow) The load capacity is over two tons: 1320 lb. or 6 passengers in the front unit 3100 lb. or 11 passengers in the rear unit. Up to 440 lb. can be carried on the roof of the rear unit. A trailer or skid of up to 5500 lb. can be towed behind. The vehicle is powered by an Industrial Ford V6 gasoline engine or a five or six cylinder Mercedes Benz turbocharged diesel engine. Transmission is via a Mercedes Benz four speed automatic with reverse ensuring smooth gear change. It also has a Hagglund transfer case for high and low gear choice. The BV206 drives on all 4 tracks, have power steering, excellent heating and ventilation system to maintain ideal temperature at all times, road range on full tanks (160 l) is 330 km, cold weather start system down to minus 52C, fully amphibious without any preparations, the ground pressure (1.7 p.s.i.) is LESS than half the pressure exerted by a human foot, gradeability on hard surface is 60%, deep snow 30%, max side slope statically unloaded 90%, top speed on road 55 km/h and in water 3 km/h.
