APTECH s technical paper entitled, "Analysis of Cycling Impacts on Combined Cycle Heat Recovery Steam Generators and Evaluating Future Costs of Countermeasures to Reduce Impacts," was presented at the ASME Power 2008 conference in Orlando, Florida. This paper was nominated as the best ASME paper at the Orlando ASME conference and was selected by ASME to be published in the ASME Energy Tech magazine. APTECH has been awarded a contract to provide J. Ray McDermott engineering support for the Barzan Project. The Barzan project is a multi-billion dollar scheme to develop a portion of Qatar s giant North Field to provide extra natural gas production for the domestic sector. J Ray McDermott was contracted to provide Front end Engineering Design (Feed) services for the Barzan Offshore Platform Topsides and Pipelines for ExxonMobil and Qatar Petroleum (QP). The engineering services for the detailed design for the wellhead jackets, temporary work decks and subsea templates is also being executed by the EPCI giant under a separate work order to allow for accelerated jack-up rig drilling operations. RasGas intends to execute the Feed services offshore for the Barzan Project to include a natural gas offshore production system with conventional wellhead platforms, intrafield pipelines and export pipelines, to the onshore Barzan Gas Plant located at Ras Laffan Industrial City (RLC). After providing an RBI training course at the Toyota manufacturing facility in Cambridge, Canada, APTECH was asked by Toyota s head office in Kentucky to bid on providing RBI implementation services. Following the successful bid, Tim Malone spent 4 days at the Cambridge plant completing inspections and collecting data on the facility s piping systems. Tim then completed a risk assessment of the piping systems using RDMIP software and a business risk model. The results of the study will provide guidance to Toyota for their future refurbishment efforts at the facility. It is hoped that the project will eventually be extended to all six of the Toyota manufacturing facilities in North America.
