Stephanie Correia (BFA Honours, ADAPT, DMA, IADA) Artistic Director Stephanie has been studying dance for 20 years, and is a graduate of York University with an Honours BFA Double Major in Dance and Kinesiology & Health Science. Stephanie is also a certified member of Dance Masters of America Chapter #38(DMA), and the International Academy of Dance Adjudicators (IADA), as well as a member of the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science (IADMS). Stephanie has also completed the 3rd and final year of the ADAPT Teacher Training Certification course, taught by the well known Brian Foley and Faye Foley, earning her full teaching credentials in jazz and tap. As a Dance Adjudicator, Stephanie has been invited to travel all over Canada to various Competitions including, Dancefest, Luv 2 Dance, Rising Star at the CNE, Millenium Dance Festival and CDTA. Stephanie was trained at Durham Dance Centre in Pickering, Ontario as well as the National Ballet School of Canada, where she was a member of the Junior Associate Program. She has studied Jazz (ADAPT, BATD) ,Tap (ADAPT, BATD), Ballet (RAD, Cecchetti, BATD), Musical Theatre, Hip Hop, Lyrical, Modern (Cunningham, Graham, Limone) and Pointe. Throughout her training, Stephanie had the opportunity to compete in many cities throughout Canada and the United States, including Florida and Las Vegas, where she and her teammates won many awards. She has also completed many exams with the British Association of Teachers of Dancing (BATD). Stephanie also had the opportunity to continue performing when she was a member of the York University Dance Team while attending York University. Now as a teacher and choreographer Stephanie ’s students have won numerous awards, including Overall Production at Dance Dance Canada in 2006. Stephanie is currently working to form a Canadian Dance organization called “Healthy Dancer Canada ”, that will promote communication between dance and medical professionals, and educate dance instructors on safe dance training practices. www.healthydancercanada.org . Stephanie has also taught dance at Clearmeadow Public School, Bogart Public School Ecole Catholique Saint-Jean, Kettlby Public School, and Armitage Village Public School. By combining her formal education at York University with her 20 years of practical education, Stephanie hopes to bridge the gap between education and the dance studio setting. Having to overcome a serious injury herself, Stephanie dedicated much of her University career to becoming educated on injuries specific to dancers, and ways to prevent them. Stephanie is very passionate about dance, and truly enjoys her job as a dance educator! Shauna Thompson, ADAPT Assistant Artistic Director Shauna began grooming her passion for dance at the age of 3, when she started training at Durham Dance Centre. For over 15 years, Shauna studied Tap, Jazz, Ballet (RAD, Cecchetti and Russian), Pointe, Musical Theatre and Acro. She has competed throughout Canada and the United States, including American Dance Awards National Finals in Las Vegas and Boston. At the age of 14, Shauna s focus turned to developing young dancers.
