Forty-nine communities will share over $1 million from the provincial government s 2010 Sports and Art Legacy to host local celebrations of the unique spirit of British Columbia. The celebrations will take place next February and will bring together artists, cultural organizations, creative industries and local citizens. Featured activities may include visual arts exhibitions, public museum programs, publications, media arts, dance, music and theatre productions. The Assembly of BC Arts Councils will be administering and overseeing BC Spirit Festivals program in 49 communities across the province. Applications were reviewed by a jury of peers representing B.C. s arts and culture community. The peer jury adjudicated applications from regional and Aboriginal arts organizations in communities across the province. "The festivals will provide a wonderful opportunity for our members and affiliates to lead their communities in celebrating B.C. s diverse cultures," said Junko Sakamoto, Executive Director of the Assembly. Thank you to the 54 communities and 57 organizations that submitted applications for Spirit Festival program grants. We are currently in the process of requesting additional information from a number of organizations to finalize their submissions. As a result, we are unable to advise successful applicants on November 4, 2010 as originally committed. We appreciate your patience and anticipate that successful applicants will be notified at a later date during the month of November.
