FESTIVAL 2011 hosted by LONDON COMMUNITY PLAYERS at THE PALACE THEATRE 5 Plays in 5 Days Preliminary Adjudicator, Eric Coates, will be adjudicating over 21 productions throughout the WODL region between October and February, and five will be chosen to compete in this Festival. The 5 plays selected will be announced on February 20, 2011 at a WODL meeting in London. Each group will have access to the theatre at 7:00 am on the day of their performance, and have until 7:00 pm to put up the set, hang the lights, set out props and costumes - and be ready for the 8:00 pm curtain. A brief Public Adjudication by Festival Adjudicator, John Lazarus, will follow every performance, with a detailed adjudication the following day at the Festival hotel. The audience is invited to be a part of this process. The winner of this competitive Festival will represent the WODL region at the Theatre Ontario Festival in Richmond Hill in May 2011 PRELIMINARY FESTIVAL ADJUDICATOR Eric Coates is the artistic director of the Blyth Festival, where he has worked in a variety of disciplines since 1995. Directing credits in Blyth include Against the Grain, Queen Milli of Galt, The Ballad of Stompin Tom and The Drawer Boy. He has also directed for Thousand Islands Playhouse and Drayton Entertainment. As an actor, he spent four seasons with the Stratford Festival and has performed in regional theatres in Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and New York. Eric is the President of the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres (PACT). FESTIVAL ADJUDICATOR John Lazarus is an internationally-known, award-winning Canadian playwright and teacher. He has taught at Studio 58, the Vancouver Film School, and the National Theatre School, and is presently a professor in the Drama Department at Queen s University. He has adjudicated for Theatre B.C., the Association of B.C. Drama Educators, the Sears Festivals, and the Eastern Ontario Drama League, and also worked as the Vancouver theatre critic for CBC Radio. John s own plays include Babel Rap, Village of Idiots, and Dreaming and Duelling. His latest play, Trouble on Dibble Street, opened in July 2010 at the St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival, Prescott, and his next play, Old Enough to Kill, will be produced at Queen s by Gnu Ground Theatre in April. John is working with Julie Salverson on a book of games and exercises for playwrights. He is a graduate of the National Theatre School.
