I’ve always loved messing around with technology. To impress me with technology takes something special. Special to me = Here are some of my reactions from 15 years working with technology: CD and DVD Burning “Oh yeah! I can back up my data like a company can back up their servers. I can burn music to CD for a friend. Sweet!” MP3 Players “yeah, pretty cool, I’ve been doing that on my PC for a few years. It was just a matter of time before it was in my pocket.” DVR “Impressive and needed, but couldn’t we see this coming? Is it anything more than a rented Tivo? Just cache your video in digital format to a hard drive and rewind! Thanks, but not ground breaking.” Voice Recognition Software “Nice on a laptop, but I want to carry this capability around in “lite” form. Basically, it hasn’t been integrated to the extent I’d have expected for 2009.” IPhone “Finally, someone is trying to consolidate my life, put my life in one place! These guys get it!” Facebook “Cool, but I remember when it was Lotus Notes and way ahead of it’s time! Social networking wasn’t born out of your generation milleniums. Sorry kids.” Application bells & whistles are sometimes interesting, but rarely impressive. For me, what great technology usually boils down to is whether something is truly useful to me. Yes, it’s that simple. Is it useful? Does it make my life easier? Does it save me time? Does it cut the puppet strings off my arms and free me up to do other things? Heck, all I want in this world is what I can imagine! Should that be difficult? Well, it seems it is because I rarely find exactly what I’m looking for. Sometimes I want someone to come along and combine the vanilla with the chocolate chips and make a better ice-cream! That’s all…I’m asking for. I’m a reasonable guy. Give me my chocolate chip ice-cream! Apple (IPhone) & AT&T (service provider) have set the groundwork for something that I have truly wanted, envisioned and needed for some time now. Thus, I give credit where credit is due. However, it’s a simple application that piggy-backs on that infrastructure that I’m truly happy about today. That application is called “Simplify Media” and it’s available for your computer and IPhone at http://www.simplifymedia.com/ So what is Simplify Media? Well, it’s both a computer application (serving your music, photos, and all media) and an IPhone application that allows you to access that media from anywhere your IPhone has reception. Thus, your IPhone is now a digital-quality media receiver that can: What else can it do? Not to be missed is that it can act as a music server & connection for you and 30 different friends! What, What, What? Yes, I did write that! For every account that you create with Simplify Media, you can invite up to 30 friends to have unlimited access to your music. You no longer have to transfer your music to these people in difficult ways. Want to recommend an album to a friend? No more need to zip it and send it via email, FTP, IM or some other lousy tranfer method, just “Simplify” and send your friend (s) an invite. So what else is cool about Simplify Media? Anything else? While listening to a song there is an option for reading details on the artist, or getting the lyrics for that particular song. That’s not earth shattering, but a nice bonus! I’ve used Pandora, Shoutcast, IHeart Radio and Last.fm. All were good and served their purpose. However, sometimes you just want your music, in digital quality, with no adds, and no conditions on what you have to listen to. It’s your world, why not have it your way? With Simplify Media, I think we finally get all our media, our way! For me, it’s vanilla with the chocolate chips – finally!
