I have a Masters in Counselling Psychology from the Adler School of Professional Psychology ( www.adler.bc.ca ) which is accredited by the American Psychology Association. Alfred Adler developed a philosophy of counselling that is based on the assumption that people are social beings first and foremost and therefore have a fundamental need to belong and experience a sense of significance in the lives of others through fulfilling their purpose. The approach created by Adler is pragmatic, optimistic and respectful and has been seen as the forerunner of brief therapy. Before going into private practice I worked at Simon Fraser University Health, Counselling & Career Centre. I have also been an adjunct instructor at the Adler School where I provided individual and small group supervision for graduate students. I currently provide supervision for practicing therapists and as a Consultant in EMDR help therapists utilize EMDR in their work with clients. Before becoming a therapist, I was an elementary teacher, developed curriculum and was a Head Teacher. It was a great privilege and honour to work with children and their families. I then created an opportunity to fulfill a life long dream of studying art at Emily Carr College of Art & Design which provided further encouragement to pursue my first dream of being a counsellor and psychotherapist. Leisure activities allow me to rejuvenate and create balance in my life. My husband and I share an interest in walking, hiking, swimming, kayaking, travel, films, especially old black and white movies. We have one cat, and several black-tailed deer, bald eagles and assorted birds that we care for.
