Thursday Night Showcase Featuring William Deverell, Genni Gunn and Drew Hayden Taylor October 28, 6:30pm, Phoenix Theatre Tickets $5 available through the Phoenix Theatre With the support of Encana Corporation, WordFest™ is hitting the road October 27 and 28 to bring the talents of four celebrated Canadian authors to Fort Nelson, British Columbia. Witty crime novelist, William Deverell, artist extraordinaire, Genni Gunn, beloved children s author, Hazel Hutchins, and Ojibway storyteller and accomplished journalist, Drew Hayden Taylor will engage students in Fort Nelson s primary, secondary, and post-secondary schools, and will participate in community activities, culminating in a marquee evening of entertaining readings on Thursday, October 28 at the Phoenix Theatre . Hazel Hutchins and Drew Hayden Taylor will bring words to life with students from G.W. Carlson Elementary, J.S. Clark Elementary, Fort Nelson Secondary, and Chalo schools. William Deverell , Genni Gunn , and Drew Hayden Taylor will perform in public events including the marquee event on October 28 at 6:30pm. Tickets will be available through the Phoenix Theatre for five dollars with all proceeds benefiting the Fort Nelson Community Literacy Society. Together, WordFest and Encana are proud to connect readers and writers in diverse and interactive literary events in Fort Nelson, British Columbia. William Deverell s acclaimed first novel, Needles, which drew on his experiences as a criminal lawyer, won the $50,000 Seal Award. Since then he has published fifteen further novels, including Trial of Passion, published in 1997, for which he won the prestigious, International Hammett Prize for literary excellence in crime writing and his first Arthur Ellis Award for best crime novel. In 2006, Deverell won his second Arthur Ellis Award for April Fool. He is creator of the CBC series Street Legal, a founder of the B.C. Genni Gunn is a writer, musician, and translator. Before she turned to writing full-time, Gunn toured Canada extensively with various bands. She has published nine books: novels, short story and poetry collections, as well as an opera libretto, and has translated two collections of poems by renowned Italian author Dacia Maraini. Her work has been published widely in literary magazines and anthologies, and has been translated into both Italian and Chinese. Her novel Tracing Iris has been optioned for film. Gunn s latest novel, Solitaria, is a tale of longing and family honour, recounted by Piera, whose extended confession solves a mystery brought to light with the bones of her murdered brother.
