Supervision I have for a number of years provided clinical supervision and consultation to other counsellors and therapists. My approach is to help the supervisee look at where they are "stuck or troubled in their relationship with a client and how that often intersects with the therapist s own issues. Sometimes supervision can take the form of practical suggestions that the therapist can experiment with to ease a stuck interaction, sometimes it requires examining where the therapist her or himself is "stuck . My general direction is to aid the therapist in helping the client to confront him or herself, to be sensitive to the tone of the interaction since that probably reflects something of the client s inner experience, to help the therapist stand as much as possible in their own "observing ego or "witness so as to best stay out of the road of the client s process.
