The Arts Council of Muskoka is a non-profit organization whose vision is to enrich Muskoka through the arts and whose mission is to identify, unite, support, promote and facilitate artists and artistic activity in Muskoka. CreativeSHIFT On Friday, October 29th, the Arts Council of Muskoka, Muskoka Lakes Music Festival and Huntsville Festival of the Arts presented CreativeSHIFT, a creative economy focused conference that took place at the Rene Caisse Theatre and Sportsplex in Bracebridge. Students from various highschools across the Muskoka attended the busy conference to learn more about the variety of career paths available to them within Muskoka s creative economy. Students were presented with a keynote speech from Dev Aujla, Founder of dreamnow.org, and the Creative Paths career fair including 30 innovative businesses and organizations from Muskoka. The general public also had the opportunity to participate in two workshops "“ one from the YWCA and one from Muskoka Tourism "“ a screening of the documentary "Downside Up", a delicious local food reception courtesy of SAVOUR Muskoka, and speeches by Dev Aujla, and Industry Minister, Tony Clement. The Huntsville Art Society also put together an amazing ArtSHIFT exhibit, involving artists Tammy Gravina, Chad Arney, Donna Buchan, Janine Marson, Pat Whittle & their sponsors Skinner Properties, Advenergy, Dr. Drew Markham Dentistry, Lord & Partners Limited, and Sustain. The exhibit can be seen from Nov. 5 to Dec. 18, 2010 at The Art Space in Hunstville. Visit the HAS web site for details. Special thanks to all of our sponsors, volunteers and exhibitors! Join us for a bus trip to the ROM to see the Terracotta Warriors! ACM is planning a bus trip tour to the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto on Wednesday, November 17th 2010. We are heading to the ROM to view a special exhibition: China s terracotta warriors. Created 2,200 years ago, these remarkable life-sized sculptures of warriors, found in the underground tomb complex of China s first emperor, are considered one of the most significant archaeological finds in history. For the first time in Canada, these warriors are being exhibited, along with never-before-seen recent excavations. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that we do not want to miss! Betty Dawson, ACM board member, organized and lead three art and photography tours to China, 1985, 86 & 87. These tours visited the Terracotta Warriors, Xian, China when some 750 warriors, a little larger than life size, had been uncovered. We have an expert on our hands! We will be departing from the Canadian Tire parking lot in Bracebridge at 8:00 a.m. and will leave Toronto at 4:00 p.m. At 11:30 a.m., our group will be given a guided tour of the exhibit at the ROM and then we will have the remainder of the day to enjoy everything the museum has to offer! Roundtrip cost of Hammond coach bus travel, ROM general admission and guided tour of the terracotta warriors exhibit will be $70 for ACM members, and $80 for non-members.
