For example, we developed a motorized cable reel, which allowed us to lay over 26 kilometers of 25 kv submarine cable from the Ontario mainland to Pelee Island in Lake Erie, again with no field splices. Installation of 8 inch carrier pipes in casing pipe under major highway, Hamilton, Ontario, for Alcatel Canada Wire - Ontario Hydro. Among our most challenging contracts was a 6.5 kilometer underground cable installation for Alcatel Canada Wire - Ontario Hydro in downtown Toronto along Lakeshore Boulevard, one of the cities busiest arteries. M.V.MARK INC. carried out all aspects of this project including the excavation, welding and installing of the pipe, backfilling, cable installing, jointing and terminating, degassifying and installing of the oil and jacket testing. Also, as a result of keeping traffic disruption to a minimum, M.V.MARKINC. designed a special prefabricated manhole which helped reduce traffic diversions to a minimum. M.V.MARKINC. specialists are equally at home under the ground or under the water. Between Lotbinière and Grondines, Québec, we installed two 450 kv DC fluid filled circuits, along with two spare cables, through a tunnel under the St. Lawrence River for Hitachi Cable - Hydro-Québec. Not a remarkable accomplishment perhaps... until you consider that we were required to install over 5 kilometers of cable in one continuous length with no joints what so ever! This installation, the first in the world of it s magnitude, was completed on schedule in just a year.
