Pope Productions is a St. John s based company specializing in feature film, documentary and television formats. Founded in 1998 by principal Paul Pope, it has grown to be the most well known independent production company in Newfoundland and Labrador. We are committed to bringing high quality and innovative creative projects to national and international audiences. Our multi-award winning productions include the dramatic miniseries Above and Beyond starring Richard E. Grant, the feature Rare Birds starring William Hurt, Gordon Pinsent s Heyday!, the double Gemini winning documentary My Left Breast and the youth web initiative, MediajamTV.com. Our series include the hit kids show Life With Derek (Season One, 13 x S hr), and the documentary series Going the Distance (13 x S hr) and Legends and Lore of the North Atlantic (13 x 1.2 hr). The company also produced Behind the Wall, a horror feature with Marvista Distribution, The One That Got Away, an MOW starring Kelli Williams, the sci-fi feature Screamers: The Hunting with Premiere Bobine and the MOW Diverted with Shaftesbury and Grenada. Most recently we completed filming of the feature Grown Up Movie Star starring Shawn Doyle, set for release in the fall of 2009. Paul has been a dynamic force in the film industry in Newfoundland for over 20 years. He has been a member of the extremely successful Newfoundland Independent Film Cooperative ( NIFCO ) since it started in 1975, serving as president for 12 years, and continuing as a board member to this day. He has produced a number of major projects including Rare Birds , My Left Breast , Extraordinary Visitor, Secret Nation and Welcome to Canada, and is well known for his outstanding work as an Assistant Director on many productions.
