Loadline expanded its grain and gravel box/trailer product line in 1990 to include complete trucks. The decision, made just as smaller grain elevators were being closed, was a stroke of genius. Today, it is a major part of Loadline s work. "The first year we converted approximately eight trucks," reports Jake who along with Darrell Penner, handles the majority of the truck sales. "Now we do nearly 200 per year and we have approximately 30 units on hand for sale at all times." Again, the big demand for this product is due to Loadline s superior workmanship. Mechanically fit fleet tractors are purchased by Loadline and then held until purchased by a customer. The tractor is then converted to the customer s configuration, which can be either hauling grain or gravel trailers or a dump-truck configuration. In either case, the sleeping unit is removed and the opening closed with an aluminium panel and window. If the truck is to become a grain or gravel dumper, the frame is extended using two C-beams and then the entire frame is capped with a third C-beam. To ensure strength and stability, the main frame is never cut. New axle attachment holes are drilled and then the axles are moved back and attached with grade 8 bolts. A wet kit (hydraulics)is added and the appropriate cargo box is installed. The body work and painting on refurbished tractor cabs looks more like that produced in a body shop than in a manufacturing plant. Speciality paint colours are available to match individual fleet colours. The used highway tractors, mid-90 s models, are popular because they are approximately one-quarter the price of a new unit. "For what a customer would pay for a new medium duty truck, he can buy a heavy duty highway unit that is better suited to handle rougher wear and tear," explains Jake. "These units were typically driven 4,000 to 5,000 miles a week, and a farmer may only drive that far in one year so they will last a long time." Loadline checks the tractor unit s powertrain both prior to purchase and after it is sold to a customer. If an engine or transmission overhaul is required, it is done. Loadline fully services what is sells. "We have developed a high level of trust with customers and have a good reputation," says Jake proudly. Customers have no surprises on the invoice when they purchase from Loadline. "Our quotes include our standard equipment (options at most other places), such as gate-side controls, quick clean out controls, top quality epoxy primer and Dupont top coat paint, and high quality Goodyear tires designed for the job." Loadline has a full range of grain and gravel boxes and trailers. Boxes vary in length from 15 to 32 feet are available in 8 or 8.5 foot widths. Triple-axle end and center-dump trailers are available in 36 and 38 foot lengths (up to 42 feet for use in the U.S.A) and clam shell-unloading versions 40 and 42 foot lengths.
