The Manitoba Longitudinal Study of Young Adults (MLSYA) is an innovative study of the gambling behaviours of young Manitobans developed through a partnership between the Manitoba Gaming Control Commission , Manitoba Lotteries Corporation , and the Addictions Foundation of Manitoba . The project sponsors recognize the need to learn more about risk and resiliency factors that relate to gambling. By tracking gambling behaviours and factors associated with gambling behaviours of young Manitobans, this study will help to inform program and policy development in Manitoba. The study began in 2007 with approximately 650 Manitobans between the ages of 18 and 20. This group was selected because previous research shows that young adults are most at risk of developing problems with their gambling. The study involves four sets of surveys over a five-year period. The surveys include a mix of gambling behaviour, psychological, and sociological measures. Each set of surveys comprises over 300 pieces of information, resulting in over 1,200 pieces of information gathered for each participant over four years, making it a truly groundbreaking research project. PRA has been engaged by the project partners to recruit and survey participants. For more information on the study, please view our FAQs .
