Horrible movers, liars, rude, rude rude

My husband and I scheduled King Movers to help us move two months ago.

Firstly, we called a few weeks ago to find out more and to book them for the moving date. When we booked the company we were simply told "$45 per hour, flat rate, taxes included".

We called two days before the move to confirm, and whoever answered the phone took down all of our information as if they had no record of us whatsoever.

We booked them for 9:00 a.m. Movers showed up close to 11 a.m. - no calls to tell us they were running late, anything. We had to call to track them down.

When the movers finally arrived they handed us a contract stating that it was $45 per hour, PLUS 1 hour drive time (Scarborough to North York takes an hour?), PLUS extra for my sofabed, PLUS extra for stairs, AND there is a 4 hour minimum. Did I mention none of this included taxes? All of this should have been explained when we called the first time. Unfortunately since we now were getting a two hour late start, we didn't have much choice.

They guys who did the moving were very friendly and professional, so I have no complaints there. However, they did drop my well-packed box of dishes that was clearly marked 'FRAGILE'. It would have been nice if they had owned up and admitted to dropping the box. Instead, it was a nice surprise to open my box and see that all of my dinnerware was broken. They also knocked into my floor lamp while unloading. (They refuse any blame for damages and replacement of items, even though they claim to be insured.)

My move was completed in 3 hours (though we had to pay for 4 minimum) because their truck was full. We ended up spending the next day moving the rest of our stuff ourselves.

I've moved many times, but this was BY FAR the worst moving experience I've ever had. Run away! Avoid like the plague!
