I recieved a letter from the Lotteries Processing Center with an address from Canada with a real check drawn on NWA airlines, in the amount of 4800. The letter had instructions to contact an agent who would lead my through the process. After speaking with the agent, he said this was only a portion of my winnings that I would receive, because 2800 dollars of the 4800 was to pay on the taxes for the winnings. The check is real enough to fool your bank and will be deposited. I had all the watermakings and endorsements that a real check would require. All I had to do, was deposit the check, and call him to confirm the deposit. He would then send by fedex, a reciept for the 2800.00, and a cashiers check for the remaining 117, 000.

I figured I was in a win-win situation right? How could you lose, the representative did not ask for my social security number or bank account information. It sounded to good to be true, it sounded real. I researched the bank listed on the check and it did not exist. I researched the address on mapquest, called some surrounding businesses, and they never heard of the bank. I decided to go to the police, i took the two halves of the check and the letter my wife made me rip-up and showed it to the desk sgt who stated they have had a lot of scams like this comming out of Canada and that it was fake, the scam artist has the victim deposit the check and your bank will hold it for a time, however, they will let you withdraw a certain amount off the check, while it clears, the victim then wires the money through western union or money gram to the scam artist and in the meantime the check comes back invalid and you owe the bank the amount you withdrew plus the scam artist now has your banking information and wipes out your entire account for whatever monies that were already in the account, they also, steal your identity to illegal aliens or drug runners and dealers. Be weary.
