BMT Research Inc and Sean Somers: Do not do business with this crook!

I entered into a contract with BMT Research/ Sean Somers in the summer of 2006 to do a small addition and renovate a basement. The job was to be done in 4 months and after 13 months and many, many quality issues, surprise costs and issues too many to mention here, Sean Somers walked off the job after we challenged him on over-inflated surprise costs. We offered mediation three times and he refused, then he left threatening messages on my answering machine. He put a lein on my house and is suing me. I have a counter suit and have discovered through a lot of research that BMT/Sean Somers has a long history of terrible quality, juiced up costs and last minute surprises. He has been kicked out of the Calgary Better Business bureau for not responding to customer complaints. My issues range from walls and floors not square, poor drywall work, doors that don't shut, various leaks and floods, unsafe wiring and lack of proper permits... and on and on. Sean lied on things like providing backfill to the new addition (after flood number one the side of the house was dug up and the only backfill was a piece of old siding and some tyvek wrap) Bottom line: do not do business with this man/company. I have heard he is part of the handyman connection, so be cautious if you are going that route.
