Ripoff prize money GE Coca-Cola promotions program non-residence tax prize locator international

Miscellaneous

The letter is sent with no return address. And it states:

"After numerous attempts to reach you by phone had failed, we are pleased to inform you through this letter that our network system shows you as the winner of unclaimed winning prize money in the amount of $265, 000 USD. This system indicates that you were selected as a winner on the 5th of Dec, 2005.

All participants were selected through a computer ballot system drawn from 25, 000 names from Aus, New Zealand, etc through International Promotions Program sponsored by GE, Coca-Cola, and Walmart which is conducted annually."
CONGRATULATIONS!

It goes on to say that you have to claim the money. It gives you the name of your "agent" which mine was Mark Johnson. The letter is signed by a Victoria Glover.
It includes a check for $4800 and says it is for you to pay "non-residence tax" before your funds are released. It tells you to call your agent. When you call him, he'll give you instructions on sending the money by Western Union to confirm your identity. He gave me the name of Mary Adams in NY at 205 Park Ave.

I followed the instructions. I put the check into my checking account. It cleared "I thought" and i took the $2850 he told me to send and I sent it. He told me to call back the next day if he doesn't call first to give me a tracking number from Fed Ex so they can ask for my Id. It was all B.S. They wouldn't answer my call. And the address on the letter is to a mall in Canada.
The next day the bank called me and told me the check was a fraud. And now I owe them the full amount.
It completely distroyed my account. My car payment, and I can't pay it back. Don't let this ruin you. Don't fall for anything like this. I was stupid to fall for it and thought it was legit since the bank cleared the check. But they cleared it "in regards to me having good status with them."Your name will be hand written on the letter.
