Award Claim Final Notification - $70K SCAM!

Education & Science

I just read canada-complaints.com from Nancy in New Jersey. My letter had the identical language - same con artists:

The letter states: 'through this letter that our network system shows you as the lucky winner of an unclaimed prize of $70, 000. Our system indicates that you were drawn as a winner on December 3, 2007'.

'All participants were selected through a computer ballot system drawn from Readers Digest Publishers Clearing House, Comuter Games, and Sweepstakes Databases from Australia, New Zealand, Europe, North and South America, part of an International Promotions Program (IPP), which is conducted annually. CONGRATULATIONS'

'It is our duty to inform you of the existence of International Law guiding the fair personal collection of cash prizes'.

The letter states that 'your funds are now deposited with us and insured under your name'.

I called and reached my claim agent, John Wolfe. Probably an alias. He assured me it wasn't a scam. But I played along - and got the same spiel others have mentioned on this site. He even went so far as to indicate that the prize money wasn't taxable and which tax exempt IRS FORM to file. Boy, he was good.

I also read that others have cashed their checks! Yikes. Don't be fooled - that check for $3, 400 will turn out to be the amount YOU pay the con artists in processing fees. There is NO PRIZE MONEY.

I plan to submit my check/letter to an attorney (unless one is already on top of this and prepares a class action suit). Let's prosecute these people before they drain more bank accounts!!!
