I received a letter with a check stating I was a winner of some type of sweepstakes. They wanted me to deposit the check and call them back with the claims# that they've given you once the check has cleared so you can pay taxes. Ripoff

Starluck Casino sent me a letter stating I was a winner of some sort including a check in the amount of $4, 968.23.

The letter states that it is a final notice and that it will be deemed null and void if it remains unclaimed after the 22th of June 2007. I was also selected through a computer ballot system drawn from over 280, 000 names in North America, Asia, Australia and Europe as part of there international promotions program conducted annually. They advise that you keep your award from public notice until your claim has been processed and your winnings are remitted to you to avoid double claiming or unwarranted abuse of this promotion. That sounded really fishy. They also ask to deposit the check and call them back as soon as the check clears with a claims number that they have given you.

When I spoke to this guy, he was all friendly and told me it was the real deal and that I won. So I got so excited about it and deposited my check right away, but right after I got home, I did some research (which I should've done before I deposited the check) on the company. It turns out to be a scam, so I had to call my bank and put a notation on the check I deposited as a fruadulent check before it cleared. And now I have to create a new bank account to avoid any type of identity theft.

So do not be fooled with this type of scam. It's also signed on the bottom of the letter by Walter Levin, PhD. Should'nt it come from a Manager of some sort if they are giving out prize money? So do not be fooled like me.
