The Clearing House
These shameless crooks tried to steal from me and a company I'd never heard of, all at the same time!

My daughter received a letter from The Clearing House in Toronto indicating that she'd won a lottery. Accompanying the letter was a very authentic-looking check for $3800.00. The money was to be used to pay taxes on the $95, 000.00 soon to be Fed-Ex'd to her door. The check was made out to my daughter and drawn on the account of The Elizabeth Electrcal Supply Company in Elizabeth, PA.
A quick phone call revealed the scam. The check was bogus, of course. The idea was for my daughter to deposit the check in her account and then wire $3800.00 to Canada. The Clearing House would forward the funds to the IRS(!) and send her the 'winnings'. The check would bounce, and my daughter would be on the hook to cover the mpney order. Meanwhile, the business in Pennsylvania would need to deal with its stolen identity. Warning: don't be fooled! The check looks very convincing.
