They tried to rip me off!!

Well I recieved a letter saying I won 38, 000 u.s dollars, and they sent me a check for 3, 800. The 3, 800 they sent me was to pay the applicable tax on the winnings of 38, 000. I thought it was to good to be true, well i took the check to my local bank to have them look at it. The manager of the bank, she told me she would look into it. She called me back later on that day and told me it was a counterfit check!
