Disgraceful working conditions & harrasment

I began working for Securitas in Jan/08 & remained a loyal & honored employee until the day I was forced to leave 2 years later. Employees were verbally abused by the office staff including curse words and threats of either termination or suspention (threats frequently followed up on to the detriment of employees). Working conditions were often 'all inclusive', meaning guards were responsible for everything from groundskeeping duties to maintenance anf furthermore did not recieve formal training in any of the 'extras' the office forced us to perform. Because of the workload & excessive hours many were forced to work, turnover was very high. People simply weren't willing to endure the abuse or work themselves into an early grave for an employer who paid pennies above minimum wage.

Many guards were selling drugs on duty while working on Securitas contracted sites throughout the jurisdiction of the Main Street office. Many still do. When I reported this to Mr. Shawn Deeley he refused to speak of it in any responsible manner but instead offered the half-assed doublespeak that he would not listen to the alligations (without having listened to what proof may or may not exist) without proof but would gladly listen at such time proof were offered to him. In retrospect, I think Deeley would be the last person to give evidence of wrongdoing to. Said evidence would never see the light of day in my opinion. Shortly afterwards I was forced to leave my job, in no small part to the drug use & sales on site and given the widespread nature of the problem transfer was not an option. I questioned Deeley specifically as to whether drugs sold on sites contractually held be Securitas generated revenue that could be tracked back to the main street office.

I also reported the issue to my immediate superviser in writing before bringing the matter to Shawn Deeley. What I can say for a certainty is that I find myself blackballed from working for this company while drug peddlers are happily plying their trade as 'security guards' for Securitas in Dartmouth/Halifax Nova Scotia. I have lost much respect for this company and would never consider them as a company I would care to be partnered with contractually given the drug dealing which certainly does exist on site and goes unchecked. People who report it, like me are forced out despite an excellent record of service and attendence and despite a clean work history. I did recieve a disciplinaty letter days before I left. I reported a superviser had been cursing at me on site and had stolen my property. The letter was written by Deeley & it denied the behavioural problem of the superviser in question. Deeley denies a lot. But the drug use and illegal narcotic sales on sites held contractually by the Main Street office persist. If you sell dope, Securitas will hire you to work for them (I wonder why?). If you report it you will be blackballed.
