Same story as Mayfair Financial Services- fake check for winning the lottery in

My husband was sent a letter stating that he won the DE-LOTTO NORTH AMERICAN SWEEPSTAKES LOTTERY held on November 30th, 2007 in the 2nd category. There was a check enclosed for $4875 dated 12/24/2007. He was to call before attempting to use the check. The sole purpose of the first check was for payment of $2875 in taxes to be paid directly to the tax agent. Government taxes cannot be deducted from the winning amount because of the 'insurace bond coverage'

The check looks real and was husband was ready to cash it but I was skeptical. After checking it out I saw the contact information was the same as another consumer complaintsed for Mayfair Financial Services. This address on this check #40704 is PO Box 187, Leslie, Georgia 31764. The bank is Citizens Bank Of Americus, Main Street, Plains, GA 31780, 64-104/612. Routing number, account number and check number are transposed at the bottom of the check reading 40704 06120142 00 73733 8.
The letter says to call John I. Peters at 1-416-731-3903 with claim number LAE/PM268GM. Needless to say we did not call.
