And DIY with What Color is Your Parachute *Thank you to this site

Shops, Products, Services

Thank you so much for this site! I too nearly fell for BHA
predatory approach to clients... The only thing that kept me from signing was their obvious hard sell/pressure ploy at the end of the second interview. And then coming back home I found this site, which removed any doubts as to what they were really after...

I would encourage anybody who has been considering using BHA, to read "What color is your parachute? " by Richard Nelson Bolles. It has an interesting chapter on how to choose a career counselor (if you really need one after reading the book!), and "bad answers" to look for...
The following from the book happened to me at BHA

- You don't meet the counselor you would be working with (just the "sales" person!) 75 bad points

- They claim they only accept 5% of clients (just a trick
to make you feel good). I can't remember exactly in my case, I think they said 20% or so? 1000 bad points

- If they ask you for a lump sum, all at once or in installments 100 bad points

- If they ask you to bring your partner with you (a ploy
to pressure/manipulate you to sign)

- If they ask you to sign a contract (the contract protects them, not you!) 1000 bad points

The author's advice: don't sign up with anyone who offers a contract or charges other than by the hour.
