Unfit Rental Property

We found a home listed on kijiji for rent back in March 2009, listed Executive Rental Home, the picture looked nice and it certanly provided more space then what we had. We met with the owners; Abe & Joumana Chater whom advised that the previous tenant just left after promisng to purchase the home, the home was not cleaned in any means and there was visable home-made repairs done. We opted to rent the location and we moved in for May 1st 2009, the home has 3 bathrooms (1/2 bath on main floor, main bathroom on upper level with double sinks, shower/bath, and ensuite from master bath), the main bathroom however was not functional (as in having a working toilet) and still as of now, February 2011 doesn't, nor has any attempt been made to repair it. There is a septic air system that was installed in the backyard as a trail/experiment that has not been successful as of 8pm every evening the odur of sewage wofts through the air outdoors and comes into the home, department of envionment have finally had enough from calls from neighbors living around us that they actually have filed a complaint to have it replaced or the owners will be fined. We had to provide our own Fridge, Washer, Dryer and they had a wall oven, counter top stove - both of which were probably 15 years and only 2 burners ever worked on the counter top, and also a dishwasher that only worked for the first 4 months before it started leaking everywhere. The wall oven and conter top stove stopped working on the 13th of January 2011, and the owners were notified so she sent out a friend of the family to see what could be done, she opted to have parts replaced rather then replace the oven/stove, so five days later after we went without any form or way to cook the counter top stove was repaird but no wall oven for a month. This is just the beginning of our story, we have had furnace issues, water issues and we seldom complain, but now our landlords are threatening to kick us out because we stopped payment on our rent cheque because our oven wasnt fixed...(but mind you that day she called to say her cheque was returned and we told her the reason why, she sent out a repair guy, and partially fixed it), so we sent a new one in minus money we had to shell out to a plumber for water issues & we are being threatened because of that... we didnt want to have to wait a month for our water to work again, so we repaired it ourselves.
