Winning Final Notification

On June 30, 2009, I received a plain white envelope with no return address and my address on a plain white label with my former last name and postmarked from Canada with a 'Canada 98' stamp. Curious, I opened the envelope to find a check for $4, 875 from "Vantage Financial Securities Inc.", PO Box 66751, Chicago, IL 60666, written on Midwest Bank & Trust, Elmwood Park, IL 60707. There was a letter, written on plain white copy paper with 'Vantage Financial Securities Inc., International Claims Department, 400 University Ave. Toronto Ont., M5G-1S7 Canada, Office Line 1 -416-830-1882' on top like letterhead.

The letter, dated June 23rd, 2009 stated that this was a WINNING FINAL NOTIFICATION... that I was one of the declared winners of SHOPPERS SWEEPSTAKES LOTTERY held on April 25th, 2009 in the 2nd Catagory and that they ahd made many unsuccessful attempts to contact me regarding this winning. It said I was entitled to the sum of $125, 000 US dollars from total prize money of $4 million US dollars that was shared and presented among the other 32 declared winners and that all participants were selected through random computer ballot system drawn from over 500, 000 names.

It goes on to say that my prize award has been forwarded to their Clearing/disbursement institution to release my funds. It then gives me my claim number and explains that the $4, 875 has been deducted from my winnings and that the "sole purpose of this first check if for payment of applicable GOVERNMENT TAXES on my winnings. Government taxes cannot be decucted from the winning amount because of the insurance bond policy coverage."

It tells me that the tax amount is USD $2, 875 to be paid either by Western Union OR Moneygram directly to the tax agent. and to "please not attempt to use this check until I call." It says "We urge you to keep this winning CONFIDENTIAL until your claim has been processed and your cash remitted to you as this is part of our security protocol to avoid double claiming or unscrupulous acts by non participants taking advantage of this program. You are advised to contact your claim agent immediately for further clarification as indicated below within 10 business day."
