, Toronto Overcharging, Ripped-Off, Took Advantage of, Intimidate, Make-up Non-existant Fees, Didn't do a thorough job

If you are looking for a mover in Toronto, please avoid using Empire Moving. I had to move pretty last minute and couldn't do much research before choosing a mover, but I learned the hard way that you have to be careful about some moving companies that will cheat you.

First, when I called the company they quoted me a reasonable price so I booked it. However on the day of moving when the workers get there the first thing they do is make you fill out a form with your personal information on it and after doing so one of the men said I had to pay a hefty labour fee and it was hard to understand what exactly he was saying because he had a thick eastern european accent.

Also for the advertising they do on their website and for the money I thought I was going to pay I expected professional movers, but these were just two random guys who were recent immigrants and they were pretty careless with my stuff. Luckily they didn't break anything large except a couple of cups but I felt let down with the service.

Then when everything was loaded and we were at the new place, the two eastern european guys both told me that I have to pay the "extra parking fee" (they didn't have to pay park), the transportation fee (it was a 10 min distance), the moving fee and applicable taxes, etc blah blah blah. When I asked how much it was he said it was about 400 dollars more on top of the "labour fee".

They still hadn't unloaded the stuff and I was stressed from all the packing and sleep deprivation so I went along with it because I was afraid they were going to take my stuff and leave. They were supposed to leave and was supposed to put together a piece of furniture they took apart while they were moving it but just left saying if they stayed longer I would get charged for the next consecutive hour.

all in all, I realized after that I was seriously ripped off, and realized that once the workers saw I was stressed and moving alone they decided to take advantage by making up fees that were not quoted over the phone that did not exist to overcharge me over triple the amount that i was quoted.

So whatever you do, please DON'T use Empire Moving.
