Winnings Scam Rip-Off pay taxes on winnings you never get

My husband received a letter notifying him of a $95, 000.00 lottery draw. Enclosed in the letter was a check for $4, 150.00 which was deducted from the amount of the total winnings. The letter stated that because we are a Non-Resident of the country we are required to send a one time tax fee of $2, 950 via money gram.
Once the money gram is sent we were instructed to contact them by phone and the rest of our winnings would be released to us. The information on who and where to send the money gram was given and I was told to call them back as soon as I had sent the wire.

I knew this was a fraud. First of all I don't play the lottery. When I asked how did we get selected seeing we don't play the lottery... he had trouble answering, but came up with, our credit card purchases caused our name to be place in the pool.

I investigated this, because I work with the state SHIP's SMP program which sends out alerts on scams. When we I checked online at Hallmark Finance Inc. and found at least three other people had reported this scam in their area, I knew I needed to post this alert.
Don't be fooled. If it's to good to be true... and that you can take to the BANK!
