Ringtone Ripoff

Miscellaneous

Ringtone Ripper .com has no less than 9 phrases on their lead webpage indicating they are a completely free, no hidden fees, pay no money for ringtones again service. There is no indication of any related fees, etc. during the signup process. They state that their fee is detailed in the "terms" you are required to agree to during signup.
They send you a text to your phone, during the signup process, and when you respond, which is indicated is required for the service to be active, they use that response as a justification to set you up for a monthly fee billed through Cingular / AT&T wirelsss in our case.
The monthly fee returns no service that we can see. The software you download to your PC to make it work is loaded with Trojan Horses. The fee they surreptitously charge you is $9.99 per month. The software worked for one of our phones, and did not work for the second one we tried.
Cingular/AT&T charged us $10.99 per month, yet Cingular/AT&T state repeatedly that they do not mark up 3rd party charges on the phone bill - the amount they charge is a "courtesy" to us for the service. They bill you as m-Qube on the statement, and they will not provide any contact information to m-Qube, and they are really making $1 per month off of you.
We finally were able to get to Verisign, and then to MEI, which apparently is 'Ringtone Ripper.' After many delays and ignoring of our requests for complete disclosure, we have been sent a refund request form, which they say they need 4-6 weeks to determine the refund.
Cingular will instantly credit up to 4 months of the charges on your bill, but will not credit any further back than that wihtout severe prompting.
This service is not free, as advertised heavily, and the monthly fee returns nothing at all.
