We received a check in the mail today for $4, 975.00 from the Financial Alliance of America Claiming that we had won the North American Shoppers Sweepstakes held on 8/7/2007. They claim we had won $250, 000.00 and that this check was the initial payment. BUT, before we could claim the remainder of the money, we had to call the telephone number and make arrangements to pay taxes by either credit card or cash via Western Union. OH Please! Do they think we are all idiots. Well anyway, the check is very official looking so be careful. it is from Stride Tool Inc. which "sponsored" the sweepstakes and drawn on National City Bank in Ashland, Ohio. I did do some research and Stride Tool does have a website but when you email them the mail comes back as unknown or undeliverable. The routing number on the check does exist and is the routing number to National City but I have no way of checking the account number. They should know by now that any sum of money that large would be sent by certified or registered mail and that the IRS gets theirs first!!! Anyway, please be aware that this is a carefully planned out SCAM! Our letter and check have been turned over to the authorities.
