I received a letter today 9-14-07 from Diamond Jewel Sweepstakes along with a check for $3, 100.00. The letter states that I was a winner with the winning number of 17-86-60-24-96 for the sweepstakes dated 9-3-07. This check was drawn on the National City Bank of Pennsylvania. I contacted our local sheriffs office and they told me to destroy the check that it was a fraud.
I researched the company on the internet and found out there has been several people with the same story and the same winning number. They claim to be a part of Publishers Clearing House and Readers Digest and they want you to call a toll free number and when you do the lady gives her name as Brenda Adams and tells you that you should deposit the check and get the cash out to give to a government agency and they will give you an address to the agency after you have cashed the check. She even goes on to tell you that after you give the agency the cash you will receive a certified check via UPS on a day that you are off or at home so that you can sign for the check.
