Crooks trying to get paid from stolen or conterfiet checks! You deposit a check they send you into your bank account and then when it clears send them the money for a release fee for some unclaimed prize or lottery winning. Don't deposit or send any money to them because you will be responsilbe for any money spent or sent.
The way to make sure is to do a little research and call the bank the check is drawn on and the company writting the check to see if it is a scam. More than likely it is! The bank asked me to fax copies of the letters and check and to report it to the local law enforcement.
The letter is from Canada and check is from somewhere in the states. That was a dead give away! That's my story, hope it helps others!
