I accepted a deal from Bell/Sympatico for a new computer and printer if I signed up for highspeed internet access. The arrangement was that I pay $59.95 for 36 months for the hi-speed internet and the computer. I had previously had Sympatico internet access, but due to the many problems that I had, I cancelled it. Before I agreed to the computer deal, I told them about my previous problems and was told that all of their lines had been up dated and I shouldn't have any more problems.

I received the computer and the modem from Bell. I was unable to access the internt with the modem.

I contacted Sympatico and many different things were tried, but nothing worked. They finally sent a technician to my house. He said that I was 5.8 kl.from the terminal and it would be unlikely that I would ever be able to get hi-speed internet access, but I should be able to get some access. He also said that the modem that they sent me was defective and he replaced it.

With the new modem I was able to get internet access, but it was very unreliable. After about 2 weeks, I wasn't able to access the internet at all. I called the technical service and they had me try all kinds of things, but nothing worked. I told the technichian the distance that I was from a terminal, and he said that they didn't guarantee anything over 4.7 kl's.

I cancelled the internet service and was told that I had to pay for the computer, $720, immediately. I said that I didn't have that amount of money and would pay by instalments. I have offered them and been paying them $35 per month, for the computer. In the original deal, $20 of the $59.95 went toward the value of the computer.

Bell/Sympatico has been accepting my money, but continue to harras me for the full amount, or return the computer. I will never return that computer, since I've definitely earned it. They have sent me numerous disconnect letters, but since my phone bills are paid in full monthly, they would be going against CRTC
regulations to disconnect my phone service. They have, however cut off my long distance service, which has made me very angry.

This whole business has made me realize that a company that I respected is just as capable of ripping people off as any other company.

How can they get away with demanding full payment for a service that they can't supply? Why are they unwilling to accept any alternatives?

I've also had many problems with trying to communicate with many of their employees because of the very strong accents. The company that use to be Bell/Sympatico Canada has, unfortunately, become Bell/Sympatico India.

Be very careful in any dealings that you have with them. They all seem to be brain dead and lack any initiative whatsoever.
