Rip off furnace service

We recently purchased our house and not long after moving in we were contacted by Pro Gas and Heating who indicated that they had been servicing the furnace for the previous owners which they validated by name. After a long sales pitch about what they would do to service the furnace I was quoted the "prefered" rate of $149.45. This seemed reasonable as the service included (among other typical service items) removing the motor and fan unit to properly clean and service the entire unit.

An appointment was made and after a couple phone calls to change the date (by Pro Gas) a serviceman arrived late at 6pm. I was interested in my new house and what I understood was a newer furnace, so I intended to watch the serviceman do what was promised. After removing the front cover (one thumb screw) he determined that this was a new style electronic solid state furnace. In fact it was a maintenance free furnace.

I replayed the promises made to me by the telemarketer and he had no defense other than for me to contact the office for a discount. The serviceman with a tool kit that was no more than a hand full of screwdrivers then attempted to look busy, when I challenged what he was doing as he tapped on one of the air horns near the burner and tried to talk his way through a burner adjustment, he did nothing. Then asked if he could use our vacuum, I obliged and for the next 15 minutes he vacuumed the exterior of the furnace.

Lastly he checked the filter and as it was okay he reinstalled it. Ready to leave he informed me that I still owed him the $149.45 for this 20 minute vacuum and filter inspection. As this was not his problem and their office was closed, I (reluctantly) gave him a cheque. When I contacted their office the next day I was first treated like a moron as to why I didn't know that my furnace was a maintenance free unit, when they found out it was on their initiative as a repeat call the tone changed.

I was then promised a Gas fitter would return at no charge and complete a more comprehensive service even though this was a maintenance free furnace as a benifit of their mistake. A couple days passed and no gas fitter and you guessed it, that was the end of that, just kept me on the hook long enough for the cheque to clear. The rude and obnoxious treatment that followed validated that this was a scam from the start and they were very proficient at it. They are Pro's but it has nothing to do with furnaces!
