Extreme Fitness - North York
RIPOFF

Sports

This is my Extreme Fitness horror story.

I initially signed up for personal training, although I had second thoughts and asked for the contract to be cancelled before I left the office; literally minutes after signing. They told me that they couldn't do it. They said I would have to talk to you Personal Training Services Manager to cancel in order to prevent charges - who just happens to have been absent at that time (who would have guessed).

The next day I went back, and spoke with him. Again no cancellation. He said that he could put it on hold until my membership expired (3-months only thank...) -- then to ask them to cancel the personal training at that time.

At the beginning of October I did just that, at their front desk and no questions asked. I didn't like the experience, but at this point everything seemed OK, and better yet it seemed to be OVER. The only thing that struck me as odd, was the fact that the person looking at my account was a little surprised that I was even asking since my membership had expired saying something like "Yes of course. Your membership has already expired, and I there's nothing listed here".

This certainly seemed reasonable at the time, and I had no reason to believe that the situation was more complicated than this.

You can probably guess what heppens next! I was very shocked to find that my credit card had been charged for Personal Training. WHAT!!! How is this possible. I called them instantly, to correct it, but was told to call back during a weekday (this was Friday night). I went in the following Tuesday, talked to the same person in the front office, only now I was hit with the line "You'll have to talk with someone in personal training about that! ". Why now, does she reveal this little tid bit of critical information? I have my suspicions, that's for sure.

I walked back into the personal training area, where of course no is willing to talk with me. I talked to the salesman who actually got me to sign in the first place, and who now was literally laughing in my face. I've called, and talked to the Personal Training Services Manager (what a joke), but haven't gotten anywhere (I left numerous messages, left notes, sent email and finally sent a registered letter so that I can eventually have some recourse).

I believe that my only fault in this matter, is having signed up for personal training in the first place. But having clearly expressed my desire to cancel should have been sufficient. Why they wouldn't allow me to cancel, even though it was within my legal right, is clear enough -- GREED!!!
