Monthly fees not transparent

I am only living in the area for 5 months, so I inquired about what the best option would be in terms of memberships. Memberships are a minimum of $24.50 per two weeks, and there is a $99 cancellation fee if I want to terminate my membership before the year is up. Monthly memberships are $76.70 per month, or $230.10 per 3 months, or $460.20 per 6 months. I was informed that going with the 6 month option was definitely the best, even though I would only be using the gym for 5 months. Turns out that the 1 month, 3 month, and 6 month options all cost the same per month!! And the cheapest option, based on 5 months of use, is still going with the first ($23.50 per two weeks) and paying the cancellation fee - that only comes to $68.80 per month!!! I will definitely not get a membership at a gym that tried to hoodwink potential members.
