Check Cashing / Fake Mystery Shopper Scam

Like Shawn and Susan here at complaint, I have also received a letter, form and check from Info Direct Monitoring & Research Services.

Re: the check:
The check is for the amount of $3969.00. The name and address of the business on the check is not "Info Direct Monitoring & Research Services", however - it is O.H., LLC dba "The Orchards", with an address of 810 Los Vallecitos Blvd, San Marcos, CA 92069. The bank on the check is listed as Comerica, 21535 Hawthorne Blvd, Torrance, CA 90503.

Re: The letter:
The three-line letterhead states: "Info Direct Monitoring & Research Services" on its top line, "Mystery Shopping, Market Research, Training & Consulting" on the next line, "435 Fielding Avenue, Montreal, PQ H4B 1W1 Fax: 1-408-786-2944" on its bottom line.

The fax number given has a 408 area code - the San Jose, California area, not Montreal, Quebec. It is addressed to me at my place of business - interestingly, given my position here I have received no mail at this address until this. The only time I've entered this address for my name is when I signed up to receive a "Free Laptop"... a process I quickly figured was not worth the trouble.

The letter breaks down what the check is for, none of which had been solicited by myself. I have every reason to believe that depositing this check would compromise my bank account, and would firmly tell anyone who received a similar mailing to file it - do NOT deposit the check! I'm holding onto my mailing as evidence.
