Do Not Use this Electrical Contractor

Consumers beware.

This individual came out to give me a quote for some electrical work. It was very basic.

1. Move an outlet from one side of a wall to another (a gas fireplace was installed and the mantel was going to cover the outlet.)
2. Hook up the Gas Blower to the fuse box. The outlet for the blower was provided.

The basement is unfinished, and the electrical outlet for the blower was screwed to the floor (no holes to be cut in the wall). He drilled a hole in the floor for the wiring to the breaker.

The price for this work was $940.00 (before taxes). I was totally ripped off. Yes he gave me a quote before the work was started, however, I had already taken the time off work and the "quote" for him to come out and do the work also included a $180.00 charge just for him to come out and give the quote. So whether he did the work or not - it would have cost me $180.00. I totally regret paying it and wish I would have sent him on his way. To make matters worse - I had to argue with him to put drywall over the old electrical outlet. He kept telling me it was a waste of money and it just needed a plate. I kept insisting that I didn't know where the mantel would hit on the wall when it was installed and I wanted the box covered with drywall. I should not have had to argue for what I - the consumer - wanted.

Bottom line - he was rude, arrogant and way over priced. Do not fall into the same trap I did. Don't even call him out for a quote. The sad part - his cell phone rang non-stop with people wanting to get quotes from him.

There are other Electricians in Brampton that will provide better service for a better price. I learned my lesson the hard way. I am telling every person I know about Ivan's Electric and that they should be avoided.
