Sent a check in the amount of $2898.79 to cover contest winning fees

I received this letter today along with a fraudulent check. I am an assistant manager at a bank, so I am overly cautious when it comes to cashing checks. I have seen so many elderly customers get wrapped up in these scams, and it's heartbreaking when there's nothing I can do to help them. So, I called the number on the letter to speak to a supervisor, and of course they wouldn't let me. They kept asking for my last name and I refused to give it. The lady on the phone had a french accent and was difficult to understand.

I finally asked for a valid email address to verify with and she told me not to cash the check and hung up on me. When I called her back, she refused to give me any additional details, but repeated to not cash the check.

These people know what they're doing is wrong and yet they don't stop. If this helps keep one person from making a bad decision, it was worth it to report it. I also contacted the company who's name was on the check (Better Clothing Center) and the woman I spoke with is so distraught about the whole situation, but appreciates everyone of us who have done our research and not cashed the checks.
