VERY RUDE? DEMANDING. INSULTING

My husband had received a letter on Monday April 6/2009 stating to pay close to $2400.00, we call the # as we had no clue what this was, and he is told this is a debt going back 16 years ago in 1993?? We have been together for about 12 years (so before my time).

I have been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis June of 2008, I was put on sick leave for approx 4 1/2 months due to medicine having to be changed. This guy demands $1800.00 and "we will settle the case"??

When we bought our house 1 1/2 yrs ago nothing of this came up, nor did it when we bought our truck or did the loan??? we did this all before I was told I was sick. Since I have been told I was sick we had to cut my hours back by 12 per week..

I am not able to be stressed out or I could relaspe, my medicine is $17, 400.00 per year (I am on Copaxone) that should be stress enough..What I would like to know can this company do this?? How do I report them?? I have asked them for "court documents" and a web sight (which does not come up) and also told him I have been in touch with the police, We will pay it back (if it is legit) but on my terms bit by bit we need to keep me as healthy as possible anyone with any information or is willing to help, please get in touch with me.
