PRIZE NOTIFICATION W/ENCLOSED CHECK... TOO GOOD TB TRUE... B/C ITS A SCAM

I recieved a similar letter via mail around Oct.20, 08 appearing just how ripoff report's other cases have stated. Also, there was an enclosed check to take care of the the taxes. If it weren't for ripoff report's website, I could have created a serious banking problem.
The letter stated that as a result won in category "C" that I have been approved for a lump sum payment of US$99000.00 Sounds too good to be true. Well, I called the agents listed in the letter as instructed by the names of ..Oh lets see Edna King or Gary James to claim the prize. After getting someone on the line, the person spoke with a middle eastern accent which didn't alarm me at first. However, as the convs. went on things just got too shady. He said that I must have purchased a product backed by Pacific Products and won the Pacific Products Contest associated with Walmart. I really don't shop at Walmart that much, at let alone remember anything about entering into a product contest. The way he explained it was like I must have bought a good (s) and didn't know about the contest. What?? Come on, we all know any kind of Rebate or Contest has to be disclosed in full at purchase. Of which, i never recalled any. The letter also had a claim prize # the whole nine.
After the call. I still felt that something was off so I checked it out on the web. I referenced the company name and all, finally stumbled on canada-complaints.coms site. The info. it provided made sense which informed that once the check is deposited into your account that its all over. They would back up the fact that you acknowledged and authorized the transaction which would protect them to a degree. But thats after the fact your account takes the hit and leaves you devistated with the hows, whos, and whys. And they will have gotten away with it by then. So a big thanks to complaint for giving me the extremely important details in order to make a wise decision.
I will make some further investigations on the check to see what bank is being frauded here and to alert them.
