I received a letter stating I was a lucky winner of sweepstakes bonanza give-away on behalf of Enterprise rent-a-car. The letter was formal and enclosed were two checks, cashier's and a official check. There was a name and number of a rep from Secure Bond Bureau and that I should call Nicole Tingle at 1-902-412-2585. I called the number it rang and rang then the operator came on saying the wireless customer was not avaliable. I tried all other numbers on the letter no answer, office closed, mail boxes full.
I then call the 800-number to the bank on the check (BANK OF THE WEST) a customer rep confirmed the checks were real. The rep stated that the funds for the cashier's check were aval but the funds for the official check were not and that I needed to follow the instructions of the letter (To call Secure Bond Bureau) I didn't want to get my hopes up so I decided to look up secure
Bond Bureau I could not find a official web site but I did see SBB scam from Ripoff report so I read the stories and then decided to investigate further.
I looked up BANK OF THE WEST to see if the address and phone numbers matched the one on the check. The address matched but the phone number and fax number didn't. I then called the 24hr banking number for the bank. The customer rep at the offical bank could not find the check# or acct # on file. The authorized sig on the check was a fake. I then looked up enterprise rent-a-car sure enough there was a link at the bottom of their site stating that there has been a sweepstake fraud using their name and that they have nothing to do with it and they have reported this to law enforecment.
BANK OF THE WEST AND ENTERPRISE RENT A CAR ARE NOT TO BLAME THEIR BEING SCAMED AS MUCH AS I AM. DONT TRY AND CASH THE SMALLER CHECK BECAUSE IF IT CLEARS SOON OR LATER YOU WILL OWE THE BANK.
