Pay below minimum wage

I have had the extreme displeasure of working for this company and threw in the towel last week. As a recent graduate of a medical transcription, I was happy to be hired by Accentus literally days after graduation. My team lead was understanding of me being a new transcriptionist and told me to contact her anytime to answer questions and to leave blanks if I could not understand something, as this would not affect my QA score and bonus.

That was the only nice thing she ever told me. To sum up, I was given orders to follow but when I did, the team lead got upset with me. One example was that I shouldn't use a comma before the word 'but' so I didn't, but then I was nailed for leaving out the comma as it apparently made a sentence "hard to understand." The only time my team lead contacted me was to tell me I can't spell and have limited knowledge of medical terminology, and things as inconsequential as the commas meant I was docked of QA scores and couldn't get any bonuses.

Accentus only pays $0.70/minute for voice recognition. My account was exclusively voice recognition. The team lead told me that because I was so awful, I would be limited to doing no more than 30 minutes of transcription/day five days per week. Who survives on $28/day? Not me!

To make things worse, we are supposed to type a minimum of 200 minutes/week or be charged $3.50 in fees for rental of a foot pedal and the software. The limits imposed on me mean I got dinged this fee and if I happened to transcribe a little over, like 33 minutes a day, the team lead was all over me. If I had a question about something, she ignored me or the response over MSN or e-mail wouldn't even answer my question, she'd just tell me to look up previous reports. The irony is that on my account, the previous reports had so many blatant errors in spelling and punctuation and formatting that I had no clue what to do.

Don't waste your time with Accentus. This company rips off its contractors. It's been a week since quitting and nobody has bothered to contact me about returning my foot pedal or getting the software de-installed.
