Disney Online Studios
, Credit Card Fraud

Internet & Web

My son--12 years old--set up an account to play "Pirates of the Caribbean Online" on the Disney website. He asked to purchase a 30 day pass to play "unlimited." I agreed and allowed him to enter my credit card number. Next thing I know, Disney is automatically billing my credit card every month. In writing, I cancelled the account, but they still billed me every month. After 6 emails, they finally cancelled the account, but they refuse to refund the charges for the months after I cancelled! The reason they gave me is that I failed to tell them the date of birth of the account holder and the billing address. First, they did not need this information to cancel the account. Second, there was no way that I could match the information provided by my son. I had already told them that the account was not set up by me, but by my son.

How dare a company like Disney adopt these business practices! They should send email notices to alert parents of charges their children might be incurring, and they should certainly cancel accounts when they are told to in writing! Beware of Disney Online!
