Illumbeam 9-LEd Flashlight

Health & Medicine

I purchased a 9-LED flashlight on December 4 (value $3.99). It was a stocking stuffer. After the Christmas holidays I opened the package and tried two different sets of AAA batteries but the flashlight did not work - I obviously had purchased a defective one. Tonight, January 8, I tried to exchange it for one that worked and was told I was beyond the 30 days limit. The defect wasn't uncovered until a few days ago and the only reason I went to this particular out of the way SDM was because the last time I was there they had stuffed their credit card paperwork (my signed copy meant to be retained by the cashier) with my bagged purchased. When I called to let them know I was told they'd appreciate if I dropped that off they next time I was in their store. I did that tonight but I was appalled that they would not exchange the defective flashlight. I was off by 4 days, we're not talking about a whole lot of money, and the purchase was a christmas gift (3 weeks had passed after the purchase). I’m disappointed that no one sees the unfairness of this. I really think that SDM should exchange the defective flashlight for one that works considering the circumstances (holiday, just off by 4 days, small value and I actually retained and returned their paperwork). I can’t believe I have to write to you over a $3.99 purchase but I was offended enough that I did.
