Black toner in Brita filter? I have been using Brita filter for the last 15 years and I am very familiar with pitcher type filters. Usually small carbon participles are released free during soaking or regular operation. The last time it was very much different - black unfamiliar substance was released into water making effect similar to when you dissolve black ink.

This faulty filter is part of 5-filters package I bought at Costco last year. Brita customer service was not really helpful, just standard confirmation that the their filters are safe and they have good quality process. However they send me new replacement filter but refused further investigation.

Has anybody had similar experience? How can I test the faulty filter to find out what is that black substance and if it could be unwelcome addition to the drinking water?
